Advancing Life and Liberty Through Action

There were 10 pro-abortion ballot initiatives attempting to codify a right to abortion this election cycle.

Florida became the first state to defeat an abortion ballot despite being outspent $110 million to $3 million. Added to this massive $110 million-dollar figure is another $27 million spent on gathering signatures to place Amendment 4 on the ballot. Despite spending at least $137 million on Amendment 4, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, with support from George Soros, failed to reach the threshold to amend the Florida Constitution.

Nebraska also had a pro-life measure – the only one in the nation – which passed and will constitutionally protect unborn life in the state after the first trimester.

While three abortion amendments failed, seven amendments succeeded in Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and New York.

These amendments are particularly decisive because they change a state's constitution, override previous state abortion laws, and can only be reversed by voters through a different ballot measure. Most of the pro-abortion amendments decided on election night involved sweeping, and often vague, undefined language which will have drastic effects in the states that ratified them.

But the fight isn't over. Liberty Counsel Action will continue to battle at the state level to protect the unborn in our nation.

Now is the time to take a stand for life! Liberty Counsel Action is working with coalitions to repeal and replace amendments in states that passed Abortion Amendments, as well as ensure this agenda is defeated in all remaining states.

You can get involved with those in your home state (or a nearby state) to protect and defend the right to life by doing the following:

  1. Review the state tracker for states that have passed amendments.

  2. To learn about the process for amending state constitutions, click here.

  3. Watch our training video, produced in partnership with Leadership Institute, on how to defeat the abortion amendments. CLICK HERE TO WATCH NOW.

  4. Share this information on social media.

  5. Pray that these extreme measures are defeated, that the Lord changes hearts and minds (2 Corinthians 3:16), and that we as a nation would humble ourselves according to 2 Chronicles 7:14,“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” To join with others in prayer, see Liberty Counsel’s Prayer Network.

Looking into 2025 and beyond, we will be updating the following information periodically:

  • Nevada requires citizens vote on the ballot amendment two consecutive years.

  • Oregon has filed for Abortion Amendment.

  • Virginia, Maine, Minnesota are considering passing an abortion amendment.
