Concentration Camp Survivor Jailed. . .

A woman who survived the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps was prosecuted under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances law (FACE). 

Eva Edl thought she “may end up dying in prison if convicted.” She went on. “When I was indicted, I began to prepare to die there,” she warned. “Right now, I am ambivalent. ... I’m doing the best I can to get ready. Haven’t talked to a funeral director yet.” 

In Yugoslavia, Eva was rounded up as a child with her family and forced into a camp by Yugoslavian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito because of her ethnicity. Surviving this horror, she came to America to experience freedom. 

Now Eva is fighting that same ethnic cleansing. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, clearly wanted to stop the proliferation of black and poor people (including Jews), whom she deemed the “human weeds” of society. The overwhelming majority of abortion clinics are in black and brown neighborhoods, revealing the specific demographic Planned Parenthood and its allies are targeting.

The Bible says: “Rescue those being led away to death” (Proverbs 24:11a). FACE is being used to silence and jail those who want to speak for those selected for death. There is no time to waste! One of the leaders with Eva that day is Chester Gallagher. He is passionately pro-life and was seen giving comfort, leadership, and advice to the group in his role as a pastor. This youthful 73-year-old led a team of people in a two-hour sit-in, mostly along the edges of a hallway leading up to an interior entrance of an abortion clinic in Tennessee. About five of them sat in front of the entrance door. Under federal law, Chester faced up to 11 years in prison if convicted and a 350,000-dollar fine for staging a rescue that day. FACE has been inflicting these punishments against pro-life advocates for decades. 

To put this into perspective, someone who committed murder could serve as little as 10 years in prison. But pro-life leaders, just for peacefully walking inside a building, can serve 11 years in prison. 

Preventing the murder of a baby can actually land you in jail for longer than committing that awful act. 

This heavy-handed punishment is intentional. It is the very definition of unconstitutionally cruel punishment, but the law is often enforced in one direction. Only 3% of convictions under this law are for pro-life establishments. 

Yet “in the last year, the feds have charged only four people for attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers, which are also covered by the FACE Act, even though liberals launched more than 100 attacks against such facilities,” pointed out the Tampa Free Press. 

This FACE Act is as cruel as it is unjust. Members of Congress also are being pressured heavily to ignore this truth and keep the status quo. They urgently need to hear from you. Help defend life with your urgent fax straight to Congress to pass the FACE Act Repeal Act.

Sadly, our team is facing resistance on life issues, even from some members of the Republican Party. We are fighting to defund Planned Parenthood through budget reconciliation, restrict deadly abortion drugs, stop the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs across state lines, and so much more.  

Our calendars are full on Capitol Hill. Last week our team worked with the office of the House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman. Our combined focus was uncovering the rot at the United Nations and also putting a plan in place to reauthorize the State Department for the first time in 20 years. We look forward to continuing those meetings.

Then we are in discussions with multiple congressional offices about defunding Planned Parenthood, including Chairman Guthrie of the Energy & Commerce Committee. The chairman’s committee staff updated a group of about 140 staffers on the exact points LCA had just discussed, and it was encouraging to see the impact of our work growing exponentially.  

All of that is in addition to your faxes and urging Congress to act now to repeal the FACE Act immediately. We are working with you to hold their feet to the fire.
