I Thought I Was Dying

May 6, 2025

"I thought I was dying."

These are the terrifying words of Abby Johnson, who once worked for Planned Parenthood. She took the same abortion pill that thousands of women now are being pressured to take at home. She experienced the same side effects of the abortion pills — alone, afraid, and under-informed.

Her gut-wrenching experience exposes what Big Abortion providers like Planned Parenthood don’t want you to know: the physical and emotional trauma women suffer — and how YOU are forced to fund it with hundreds of millions of our tax dollars.

Abby recalls, “The only thing I could do was sit on the toilet. I sat there for hours … bleeding, throwing up into the bathroom trashcan, crying and sweating.” She said she had “[a]nother lemon sized blood clot. Then another. And another.”

She endured the painful and sometimes fatal complications of the abortion pills. Updated research shows us that 1 in 10 women experience serious, sometimes life-threatening complications.

And yet, Planned Parenthood is lying to these women to speed up their turnover rates by handing out chemical cocktails through mail-order pills and rushed visits, all subsidized with our taxpayer dollars. And some members in Congress are toying with letting these funds continue. It’s time to DEFUND Big Abortion.

+ + A Government-Funded Horror

Planned Parenthood and other abortion giants are raking in tax dollars to push these dangerous at-home abortions — often involving teens — without vetting, follow-up care, safety warnings, or compassion. This isn't health care. It’s government-funded abuse.

In sheer exhaustion, Abby sought comfort in a bath and closed her eyes. “I opened my eyes after 15 minutes and was horrified. My bathwater was bright red. It looked like I was sitting in the middle of a crime scene. And I guess it was … I had murdered my child.”

Abby’s nightmare didn’t end quickly. She experienced “Eight weeks of blood clots. Eight weeks of nausea. Eight weeks of excruciating cramps. Eight weeks of heavy bleeding.”

She described passing “blood clots the size of lemons,” and said, "I decided to sleep on the bathroom floor that night…right by the toilet.” Her words are a chilling reminder that what Planned Parenthood calls “reproductive freedom” is, in reality, torment and death.

Abby’s story is common. Emergency rooms across the country report increasing numbers of women coming in after taking these abortion pills — some hemorrhaging, others suffering infections or psychological trauma. And it’s no wonder. Even Planned Parenthood’s own data shows higher rates of complications for chemical abortions than for surgical abortions.

One study using older California Medicaid data found a major complication rate of 5.2% for chemical abortion but 1.3% for first-trimester aspiration abortion. This is a “complication rate for the abortion pill that is four times greater than surgical abortion.” And it might actually be closer to 10 times higher!

Yet Congress continues to send HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of our tax dollars to fund this brutality. Demand Congress STOP IT!

+ + Planned Parenthood Profits — Women Pay the Price

Planned Parenthood falsely claims abortion is “safe.” They call it “empowering.” And they’re getting rich doing it — with your help. They rake in nearly 700 million dollars annually from taxpayers. That’s our money funding abortion pills, covering up complications, and sending traumatized women home with nothing but a heating pad and a false promise that “everything is normal.”

That’s not normal. That’s criminal.

Funding Big Abortion ends when we demand it. Your voice matters. Join the grassroots army pressing for real change now.

+ + The Environmental Impact They Refuse to Talk About

And what about the impact of these pills beyond the woman? Chemical abortions involve expelling aborted fetal remains and drug metabolites into the sewer system. Studies estimate over 30 tons of chemically tainted medical waste — human tissue, blood, clots, and placental material — are flushed into our waterways each year due to the abortion pill.

This is a national health and environmental concern.

Wastewater treatment plants are not equipped to filter these dangerous compounds. The FDA rushed the approval of these drugs and never required thorough environmental studies. The EPA has refused to act. This is more than negligence — it is the willful disregard of human dignity, public health, and environmental safety.

There is no excuse for funding this evil.

Liberty Counsel Action is fighting on Capitol Hill to stop funding abortion. We’re urging leaders to pass legislation to permanently block federal funding of abortion providers.
