Backroom deals threaten abortion defunding provisions

The Senate voted yesterday on the most significant pro-life budget bill by the slimmest possible margin — 51-50 — with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tiebreaking vote.

Over the weekend, Senate leadership dropped the 10-year defunding of Planned Parenthood and other abortion giants — and replaced it with one year. This was done because of the Senate parliamentarian.

But now that the Senate passed its own version, the budget heads to a Conference Committee. Differences between the House and Senate versions could result in fireworks.

After months of work to defund Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion from using our tax dollars, we could lose everything if we remain silent. But the battle is far from over.

This is not over.

In the U.S. House, there’s no vice president to cast a tiebreaker vote. If the House refuses to accept the Senate version of the bill — which is increasingly likely — a conference committee will be triggered.

That means a delegation of House and Senate leaders will sit down and negotiate the final version of this bill.

We still have a real shot at winning the most serious defunding of abortion since Roe v. Wade — but not if we stay silent.

This follows the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that states may strip Medicaid funding from abortion providers. The tide is turning — and Congress has the chance to deal a crippling financial blow to those who profit from the deaths of innocent children.

If we don’t demand they hold the line, some members of Congress will continue to compromise. And if we lose this fight to create a 10-year ban, we’ll be battling it year after year. But even the one-year defunding provision is now at risk. That’s why we need your voice now.
