Advancing Life and Liberty Through Action

Can They Be Any More Obvious?

Jun 29, 2026

Congress just ran away

President Trump brought business as usual in Washington to a grinding halt and demanded that the Senate focus on one urgent priority: Pass the SAVE America Act.

Trump handed Senate Majority Leader John Thune an extraordinary gift.

Trump canceled a major White House bill-signing ceremony. He went directly to Capitol Hill. He confronted Republican senators face to face. He declared election integrity a “National Emergency” and made clear that Congress could no longer expect him to keep signing its legislation while the SAVE America Act gathered dust.

He gave Thune leverage.

He gave him momentum and media coverage.

He gave him the opportunity to tell every Republican senator: No one leaves Washington until we find a way forward.

But Thune did the opposite.

He sent them home. This is infuriating.

Right when the pressure was building, right when Washington had finally been forced to pay attention, and right when senators should have remained in the capital negotiating, debating, and voting, Republican leadership allowed them to turn their backs on the fight and go home.

Fax Congress now. Demand that the Senate return to work and immediately take up the SAVE America Act.

The Senate has time for spending bills, nominations, political theater, and the priorities of Washington insiders. But when President Trump demands action to protect the integrity of American elections, Republican senators suddenly act as though nothing can be done.

They shrug.

They hide behind Senate procedure.

Then they leave town.

This is not leadership.

It is surrender.

The SAVE America Act would simply require proof of citizenship to register for federal elections and photo identification to cast a ballot. These are basic protections supported by overwhelming numbers of Americans — including many Democratic voters.

Yet some Republican senators are positioned far to the left of the very voters they claim cannot be persuaded.

Instead of exposing the extremism within the Democrat Party, forcing debate, and making senators defend their votes in public, Republican leadership is sheltering them.

Sen. John Cornyn openly told President Trump that he must “bow to reality” because Senate leaders claim they do not have 60 votes.

No.

The American people should not be told to bow to a broken Washington process.

Senators should be forced to stand on the Senate floor and explain why they oppose proof of citizenship and photo identification for American elections.

Democrats should be forced to filibuster election integrity in full view of the nation.

And every Republican who refuses to use every available procedure to protect our elections should be forced to put his or her name on the record.

Instead, Thune and other Republican leaders are protecting these turncoats from accountability.

Flood the Senate with faxes today. Tell Republican leaders to stop sheltering weak senators and bring the SAVE America Act back to the floor.

President Trump has already shown Republicans what determination looks like.

He was preparing to sign an unrelated housing bill that members of Congress desperately wanted to celebrate. There would have been cameras, speeches, handshakes, and congratulatory headlines.

Trump canceled it all.

He refused to give Congress a staged victory while lawmakers ignored what is tearing apart the fabric of our nation.

That was the moment for Republican leadership to close the doors, keep senators in Washington, and begin negotiating in earnest.

Instead, they scattered.

What is frustrating is that the Republican Party acted as though the president’s pressure campaign were an inconvenience to ignore and survive rather than an opportunity to seize.

It is very possible that “leadership” hopes a few days away from Washington will drain the momentum, calm public outrage, change the media cycle, and allow the Senate to return to business as usual — ignoring election integrity.

We must not let that happen. We ask you to keep this issue at the forefront of your legislators’ minds wherever they are by flooding as many offices as possible with faxes and using every other available means of contact.

The integrity of our elections is not a side issue. It is the foundation that determines whether Americans can trust every later decision our government makes.

Without secure elections, we do not have meaningful representation.

Without proof of citizenship, the legal distinction between an American voter and a foreign national is weakened.

Without voter identification, basic safeguards expected in countless areas of daily life are suddenly called “extreme” when applied to the ballot box.

This betrayal must end now. Your voice can help make it happen.

Liberty Counsel Action is working to generate an avalanche of public pressure while Republican leaders are hoping Americans will look away.

We are preparing messages, mobilizing voters, and delivering your faxes directly into congressional offices. But this nationwide campaign requires substantial resources.

Please consider a generous gift of 25, 50, 100 dollars, or more to help continue this battle for election integrity. It’s time to hold weak Republicans accountable.

President Trump stopped business as usual. Now it’s up to you to keep up the pressure to make Congress act.

Thank you for your concern and action at this critical moment!
