Tell Congress: Pass the SAVE America Act

Inside the DMV, a noncitizen stepped up to the counter. Asked if she is a U.S. citizen, she answered, “No.” Yet she still walked out as a newly registered voter with her driver’s license in hand.

This has happened thousands of times in New Jersey. State officials acknowledged that approximately 6,600 noncitizens were placed on the state’s voter rolls between June 2023 and June 2024 because of a software failure. Hundreds of them reportedly cast ballots.

And now, those numbers may be even higher.

About 35,152 noncitizens registered to vote are on New Jersey’s voter rolls, according to federal estimates.

Our current election system allows people who are not citizens to be treated as eligible voters and cast ballots. We have a short time to fix this mess.

This is precisely why the effort to secure our elections cannot stop until we know with certainty that only U.S. citizens are casting one lawful ballot — with valid photo identification.

Urge Congress, through your faxes, to use every available means to protect our elections now.

The SAVE America Act is an urgent necessity.

The bill would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in a federal election. It would also require a valid photo ID before a ballot is cast. States must identify and remove noncitizens from their voter rolls.

In recent years in New Jersey, four gubernatorial and one U.S. Senate race were each decided by less than 35,000 votes.
