What will it take to have election integrity?
A massive battle is erupting on Capitol Hill — and the integrity of America’s elections is at the center of it.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has pushed Congress to adopt a simple safeguard: Require proof of citizenship and photo identification for federal voter registration.
But opponents are fighting back.
Democratic members of the House were reportedly heard chanting, “SHUT IT DOWN,” as lawmakers battled over election-security protections.
Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) warned, “Democrats would rather shut down the government than stop illegals from voting.”
Why would anyone threaten a government shutdown to block proof that a voter is an American citizen? Only American citizens should decide American elections. However, Democrats are fighting against this tooth and nail!
The numbers already uncovered should alarm every American:
Virginia officials identified 6,531 noncitizens on the voter rolls.
New Jersey discovered approximately 6,600 improperly registered noncitizens — and hundreds reportedly cast ballots.
Pennsylvania identified approximately 11,000 noncitizens who may have been registered.
And a federal review involving California, Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania identified 256,463 apparent noncitizen voter registrations.
That is more than a quarter of a million illegals registered to vote in just four states.
How many others remain undiscovered nationwide?
The problem extends beyond illegal border crossings. Student visa holders and lawful permanent residents are still noncitizens, yet some have appeared on voter rolls. Meanwhile, automatic “Motor Voter” registration programs often operate without requiring documentary proof of citizenship.
Twenty-two states and Washington, D.C., also allow same-day registration and voting, leaving little time to verify eligibility before ballots are cast.
The SAVE America Act would help close these dangerous gaps by requiring proof of citizenship before a person may register to vote in a federal election.
Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), co-founder of the Congressional Election Integrity Caucus, warned:
“The election security of our nation is at risk.”
But we are not powerless. Make your voice heard by sending as many faxes as possible to Congress to tell them that American elections must belong to American citizens alone.
