“Without you, I would have nothing.” 

Those were the words Sophie wrote to her father in a birthday card in October 2024. She continued: “Wholeheartedly, fully, sincerely. I love you with no end.” 

Joseph Kutzko could never have imagined what would happen next. In a couple of months, his 15-year-old daughter would be taken by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), given a boy’s name, and shoved into a boy’s dormitory.  

The school Sophie attended started treating her as a boy — using a male name and male pronouns — without ever telling her parents.  

Then came the next step. A school counselor reported the family to DCF. Then, DCF took custody of Sophie. 

The Kutzkos' attorney describes what happened as a “school-to-DCF pipeline.” And since January 2025, Joseph and Arlene say they have not been allowed to hug their daughter. Take her to Mass. Talk with her. Pray with her. Or even see her.  

But an even greater danger lurks for families like this. If the misnamed “Equality Act” passes, so-called transgender rights will be codified in federal law. That means parents will be silenced, forced to accept their child’s damaging life choices, or face a mountain of litigation from both their daughter and the federal government if they speak out against transgenderism.  

The Equality Act (H.R. 15 and S. 1503) is live right now in the House and Senate. Urge as many legislators as possible to block this bill from coming to a vote.

Joseph and Arlene are devout Catholic parents in Massachusetts. What they thought was Sophie staying after school for math help turned into a personal nightmare. Her public high school wasn’t teaching math; they were counseling her on transitioning her gender identity.  

This nightmare hit home when Sophie accused her father of punching her in the shoulder and pulling her hair. DCF deemed that these accusations were unfounded. However, that exoneration didn’t stop this runaway train.   

The nightmare gets worse. These parents say DCF or its providers have placed Sophie in a boys' residential setting, treated her socially as male, put her on psychiatric medication and birth-control medication directly in opposition to their Catholic faith, restricted her access to Sunday Mass — and sought court permission to administer testosterone.  

Think about that.  

Her parents can't give her a hug.  

However, the government is looking to alter her body and likely sterilize her for life.

To stop this, her parent had to sue to get a judge to block the state from giving permanently altering hormone treatments. And only on September 11 were they able to get a Massachusetts judge to intervene while this case continues. 

But if the Equality Act were passed, they wouldn’t have won — in fact, they probably wouldn’t have had a viable lawsuit to stop the medical tyranny of transgenderism. That’s what our nation will become, without any accommodation for religious families like Sophie’s.  

We must not let freedom die on our watch. 

Congress needs to hear from you! Urge members to block the Equality Act with your immediate faxes.

Here is a chilling point that every parent should understand:  

The Equality Act contains no general exemption saying gender-identity provisions apply only to adults.  

In fact, the bill specifically amends federal law governing public education to add “sexual orientation and gender identity.” Its definition of “gender identity” applies to an “individual” and contains no minimum age. And under covered portions of the bill, an individual cannot be denied access to a restroom, locker room, or dressing room corresponding to their gender identity.
